CHAMAIRO Mussatia hyacinthina   NEW!!
The bark of this rare vine is highly valued in tropical regions of Bolivia and Peru as an admixture to Coca leaf. Chewed on its own, a small pinch of Chamairo has a mild astringent taste, yet when mixed with a traditional Coca quid it blossoms with an exceptional sweet taste, somewhat like powdered sugar! It is thought to enhance the actions of Coca and is reportedly sometimes chewed with alkali (baking soda works), but without the Coca, for its own effects. It is also a traditional digestive tonic. Chamairo’s capacity for potentiating other bioactive herbs (we've heard positive effects with Catuaba) and its promise as a condiment is still unexplored. We have secured a small supply of finely shredded vine bark, wildcrafted by the Tacana in north west Bolivia and are pleased to offer it here for the first time. Limited supply.

Wildcrafted Bolivian Chamairo vine bark $8/1oz or $25/4 oz
July Special! $6/1oz or $22/4 oz

GUARANA Paullinia cupana var. sorbilis
Famed tonic/stimulant of the Brazilian Amazon. Natives insist their daily dose of Guarana serves as far more than a powerful stimulant, claiming it acts as both an aphrodisiac as well as a treatment for headache, fever and cramps. The high content of tetra-methyl-xanthine, hypoxanthine, guaranine, theophylline and theobromine accounts for its intensely pleasurable stimulant effects, which propel the mind and body for up to six hours. Prescribed as a replacement drug for those who cannot tolerate coffee and tea, but its unusual saponin content (limbonine) underlies the longterm tonic effect (Ginseng owes its activity to saponins). Known as a healthy stimulant and perfect sustaining food substitute during fasts and diets, it’s also fun! About 1/2 to 1 tablespoon is a dose. We now offer whole seeds so you can grind your own powder fresh in a coffee mill. One of the crops of Amazonia with positive ecological status: supports the peoples and habitats of the Amazon. For a more info see our Guarana report

WHITE TEA Camellia sinensis
Considered a subgroup of Green Tea. The least processed of all Camellia teas, consisting of specially picked, unrolled, steamed then sundried leaf and bud. Reverent handling keeps the soft downy white covering indicative of new growth intact on the bud and leaf. Shown to have a higher levels of polyphenol antioxidants than other Green Teas and low caffeine. A favorite of Emperor Hui Tsung who was so enraptured by his love of tea, and preoccupied pursuing the perfect brew, that in the 1100s his empire was lost to invading Mongols. White Tea has a most delicate flavor, smooth and subtle with a sensuous full body, hint of sweet aftertaste and no grassy overtones. We offer the finest White Peony Tea (Bai Mu Dan) fair trade certified and organically grow.
